Gems off the Shore—Pigleta Tea

You say, “I’ll like boba when pigs fly.” Pigleta Tea said, “Bet.”

Pigleta Tea is a family-owned cafe that specializes in boba right in Point Pleasant Beach off of Richmond Avenue.

Located a short drive from the beach, this pink-filled cafe offers a wide variety of boba to choose from. It doesn’t stop there, though, they also have coffee, breakfast, smoothies, and juices. And I am in love. Here’s where said love affair began a few weeks ago.

After partying all night, hungover, and simply looking to have a refreshing drink to bring us back to life, my friends, Zoe and Bridget, and I decided that we would try out Pigleta Tea. It’s a short, three-minute drive from my house, or a ten minute walk, but we were not walking in the condition we were in. The horror.

We walked in, greeted with the delicious aroma of fruits and hot tea, and adorable little stuffed toy-piggies were everywhere in sight. Pigs were on the counter, on the floating shelves, and hanging from the ceiling. Some sported little sunglasses, one a mustache, it was so unbelievably cute. In that moment I knew I would be coming back regardless of how the tea tasted for the vibes and the vibes alone.

My friends and I have a little inside joke where we call things “hogs.” “Hog” is a noun. “Hog” is an adjective. “Hog” is a verb. “Hog” is a lifestyle. For instance, my friend, Jenna, her name is Jennahog. If you pop off a little too hard at a party, you “hog out.” One can go “ham hog” on their school project. If you like working out you’re a “big hog,” or a “workout hog. Simply, someone can be just a “hog.” So imagine, in our sleep-addled haze, how exciting it was for us to see floating hogs.

I digress.

I started to peruse the menu and took in the range of tea they had. They offered milk teas, iced teas, float drinks, and some specialty drinks including strawberry milk and signature sodas. After looking over their expansive menu, I tried their Passion Fruit Tea with mango popping boba; it was out of this world, truly.

It was sweet, without being overbearing, and just the right amount of tart to wake me up. The popping-bubbles melted in my mouth after their mini-explosions, making for a satisfying experience.

Zoe tried their Taro Milk Tea and their Thai tea, and said that she would be returning again because she loved them.

At the time, I didn’t even know they had food! But now, after researching their online menu, I will undoubtedly be returning to try a croffle (croissant-waffle) or yogurt. You can customize sugar level, and include a plethora of add-ins, such as aloe vera, sugars, and jelly, in addition to popping boba or tapioca pearls.

We left Pigleta with a smile on our faces and a punch-card in each of our hands. The owner was unbelievably kind, and I would give her business daily if I could. I felt at home here with the blue walls and pink decor and know that this place could bring me comfort when I need a little treat to pick-me-up. It’s also located right next to my favorite Mexican restaurant, Dona Julia, but that’s for another time.

Also, did we leave each of us now being the proud owner of a flying hog… yes.

Next time, I would love to try both their Coffee Milk Tea and Lavender Milk Tea. Both sound absolutely scrumptious. I would also love to get my hands on their summer rolls, with the options of crab, tofu, and shrimp.

Overall, this experience was so wonderful and gave Barbie-realness. Pigleta Tea is a gem of a café that I think anyone passing through Point Pleasant Beach or staying for vacation over the summer should give a shot.

Their hours are Monday 11:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M., closed Tuesday, and Wednesday-Sunday 11:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. Pigleta Tea’s address is 1304 Richmond Ave, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742. Their website is https://www.pigletaboba.com/.
